Welcome to my new website! It is an honor to serve you as Ventura County Supervisor for the Second District.
I am dedicated to upholding the exceptional quality of life within Ventura County while striving to enhance the efficiency, accountability, and transparency of the county government. My primary objectives include fostering secure neighborhoods, attracting new employment opportunities for the middle class, tackling the significant issue of homelessness, and safeguarding our natural landscapes and ecosystems.

Ventura County Supervisors Vote to Pursue Statewide Legislation Promoting Dangerous Dog Transfers to Rescues, and Reducing Animal Euthanasia
“No one wants to euthanize an animal when there is a responsible and lawful opportunity to save its life,” said Supervisor Jeff Gorell, Chair of the Ventura County Board of Supervisors. “Today’s action gives us an opportunity to pursue a better path—one that saves the lives of animals, protects the public, supports responsible rescue efforts and protects taxpayers from indefinite liability. If an agency follows the law, fully discloses an animal’s history, and a qualified rescue knowingly accepts custody and responsibility, there should be a clear point when that responsibility transfers. Responsibility should follow custody and control.” Release at link in bio.

As the Jewish New Year begins, I wish our Jewish community a year filled with peace, hope and health.
This year, that message feels especially important here at home. The antisemitic vandalism that occurred in Ventura this past week is deeply disturbing and deserves our unequivocal condemnation. Antisemitism, hatred, and intimidation have no place in Ventura County.
At a time meant for reflection and renewal, let us choose something stronger than hate: kindness, understanding, and solidarity with one another.
To our Jewish community: we stand with you, we celebrate with you, and we wish you a peaceful and sweet New Year.
Twenty-five years ago, our nation was forever changed.
Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives taken on September 11, 2001, and we continue to hold their families and loved ones in our prayers. I hope that through the passage of time, they have found some measure of peace while carrying a loss that can never truly be replaced.
We also remember the extraordinary courage we witnessed that day—the firefighters, law enforcement officers, first responders, service members, and ordinary Americans who ran toward danger to help others. Their bravery reminds us why we must never take for granted the men and women who answer the call to protect us. They never know when an ordinary day may suddenly require extraordinary courage.
September 11 also reminds us of the devastating consequences of terrorism and political violence. There is no place for acts of terror intended to divide, intimidate, or destroy innocent lives.
I remain deeply grateful to the men and women who answered our nation’s call in the years that followed. I had the honor of serving alongside some of them in Afghanistan as our military pursued al-Qaeda and worked to protect our country from another attack. Their service and sacrifice will always be deeply personal to me.
Twenty-five years later, may we continue to honor those we lost, support the families who still carry their absence, and remain grateful for those who stand ready to protect us.

We appreciate our community members taking the time to come out, ask questions, and connect directly with representatives from the Ventura County Fire Department, Public Works Agency, Resource Management Agency, and our local water provider.
These conversations are an important part of keeping our community informed and making sure residents have direct access to the agencies that serve them.
Thank you to all of our County partners and, most importantly, to our Camarillo Heights residents for being engaged in your community!
It was a pleasure to welcome leaders, advocates and community members from across California to Ventura County for our 3rd Annual California Government and Disability Summit.
This year’s theme, “Access Forward,” is an important reminder that accessibility should be built into everything we do — not treated as an afterthought. Accessibility means making sure everyone has the opportunity to participate fully and independently.
Thank you to our Ventura County Disability Access Manager Dani Anderson for her leadership in bringing this Summit together, and to everyone working to create more accessible and inclusive communities.

September is Hunger Action Month in Ventura County! At yesterday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, we were proud to recognize Food Share of Ventura County for the incredible work they do every day to fight hunger and support local families. At today’s Board meeting, I was honored to recognize 10-year-old Girl Scout Junior Gemma Kleinzweig for an incredible act of courage.
Earlier this year, the local 6th grader was attending a Girl Scout camporee when her best friend and fellow Scout suddenly began choking on a marshmallow and couldn’t breathe. Without hesitation, Gemma recognized the emergency and sprang into action. She administered back blows, successfully clearing the obstruction. She then stayed by her friend’s side, comforting and reassuring her until adults arrived.
For her quick thinking, bravery and compassion, Gemma was awarded the Girl Scouts of the USA Medal of Honor, one of the highest national honors in Girl Scouting and an award reserved for those who demonstrate exceptional courage in saving or attempting to save a life.
Gemma’s story is a powerful reminder that courage, leadership and service to others have no age limit. We are incredibly proud to have young people like Gemma in our Ventura County community!
