I am dedicated to upholding the exceptional quality of life within Ventura County while striving to enhance the efficiency, accountability, and transparency of the county government. My primary objectives include fostering secure neighborhoods, attracting new employment opportunities for the middle class, tackling the significant issue of homelessness, and safeguarding our natural landscapes and ecosystems.

With 26 years of service in the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Sergeant Alvarez has dedicated his career to protecting our communities and keeping families safe. Today, he leads the East County Special Enforcement Unit, overseeing complex investigations focused on violent criminals —helping ensure Ventura County remains the safest large county in California.
But his impact goes far beyond enforcement.
Sergeant Alvarez has been a driving force behind programs like MANDO (Mentors Against Negative Decision Outreach) and the Gang Awareness Partnership, working directly with youth to prevent gang involvement and create positive pathways forward. His leadership brings together schools, law enforcement, and community partners to support at-risk youth and strengthen our neighborhoods.
He leads with integrity, mentors the next generation and builds trust within the community every day.

Honored to recognize the relocation and installation of the Military Order of the Purple Heart monument at the Ventura County Government Center — creating a more visible and accessible place for our community to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those wounded or lost in combat in service to our nation.
This meaningful project was made possible through collaboration between the County of Ventura, Naval Base Ventura County, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, local partners, and dedicated county staff — all coming together to ensure these stories of service remain part of our community’s shared history.
The monument now stands alongside the Veterans Memorial as a lasting reminder of the extraordinary sacrifices made by Purple Heart recipients and the importance of honoring our veterans not only on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, but every day.

Sandy Fire Update from the Ventura County Office of Emergency Services:
The Sandy Fire remains at 1,698 acres with containment now increased to 15% thanks to strong overnight firefighting efforts. Light offshore winds are expected this morning before transitioning to onshore flow later today.
Evacuation Orders remain in effect from the Rancho Simi Recreation Area east to the Los Angeles County line, impacting approximately 33,959 residents and 9,946 structures. Two Evacuation Warnings remain in place for the Box Canyon area.
Road closures continue throughout evacuation zones and all Simi Valley Unified School District campuses remain closed today, including after-school activities and programs.

Firefighters made important progress overnight on the Brush Fire in Simi Valley, with minimal fire growth reported. The fire is currently estimated at 1,385 acres with 5% containment as crews continue aggressive suppression efforts and work toward full containment.
Public safety personnel are also coordinating efforts throughout the day to safely repopulate evacuated areas as conditions allow.

Ventura County Firefighters are working to contain a fast-moving brush fire originating in the area of Sandy Avenue in Simi Valley. The latest update shows the fire perimeter is at an estimated 1364 acres as of 7:41 pm this evening. The fire continues moving east, threatening the communities of Simi Valley, Bell Canyon and Box Canyon. Evacuation Orders and Warnings have been issued for many areas.
