I am dedicated to upholding the exceptional quality of life within Ventura County while striving to enhance the efficiency, accountability, and transparency of the county government. My primary objectives include fostering secure neighborhoods, attracting new employment opportunities for the middle class, tackling the significant issue of homelessness, and safeguarding our natural landscapes and ecosystems.

Today at the Ventura County Board of Supervisors meeting, we were proud to recognize Sergeant Dillan Alvarez as our Employee Spotlight Moment of Inspiration.
With 26 years of service in the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Alvarez has dedicated his career to keeping our communities safe while also making a lasting difference in the lives of young people.
Through his work with MANDO Youth Development Group and other community partnerships, he has helped mentor at-risk youth, build trust, and create positive pathways forward.

Local high school students with the Podium Movement recently joined us at a Board of Supervisors meeting to share their ideas for strengthening mental health support on school campuses.
Today, we continued that important conversation at my office, bringing students together with our County Executive Officer Dr. Sevet Johnson, Behavioral Health Advisory Board Member Dianne McKay, and Director of Public Health Nursing Seleta Dobrosky to discuss their ideas and explore ways to better support young people in our schools.
It’s inspiring to see students using their voices, bringing forward solutions, and engaging directly with local leaders. The future is bright with young people like these leading the way.
Happy First Day of School for many local students! Here’s to a great start to the new school year. Shout out to teachers, school staff, and administrators who support our students and help them succeed and to all the parents juggling pick up, drop off and all the things in between. The National Weather Service has extended the Extreme Heat Warning for the northern Ventura County mountains through 8 PM today, Sunday, August 9.
A Heat Advisory remains in effect for most of the rest of Ventura County, including many coastal areas. Temperatures of 90–100°F are expected, with warm overnight temperatures providing limited relief.

Ventura County Firefighters are responding to a brush fire near Holser Canyon in unincorporated Ventura County.
At this time, no evacuation orders or warnings have been issued. However, fire conditions can change rapidly. Residents in the area should remain alert, closely monitor official information sources, and be prepared to take immediate action if conditions deteriorate.
If you feel unsafe or believe your evacuation route may become compromised, do not wait for an official evacuation order. Leave the area immediately while conditions remain safe to do so.
Residents with access and functional needs, mobility limitations, medical dependencies, transportation challenges, livestock, or large animals should strongly consider relocating now to avoid potential delays should evacuations become necessary.

⚠️ BRUSH FIRE UPDATE
Two brush fires are currently impacting Ventura County:
🔥 Buena Fire – Yerba Buena Road
The fire is approximately 3–5 acres and is backing down toward Carlisle Canyon, with a potential threat to structures. The fire remains more than a mile from Carlisle Canyon. Ventura County and Los Angeles County fire resources are responding.
🔥 Ridge Fire – Kern County
The Ridge Fire has grown to more than 1,000 acres and is exhibiting rapid growth, with potential impacts to Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Ventura County is supporting the response with engines, crews and command staff.
